“Let me get this straight, salvation is free. Come on, what is the catch?”
Yes, salvation is offered freely to all, but it was purchased at a great price. Jesus Christ, the God-man, voluntarily laid down his perfect life as a once-for-all sacrifice for all sin. Three days later he arose and came out of the grave. He visited with his friends and followers for forty days after that, and then ascended into Heaven right before their very eyes. He promised to return one day. This is the great promise of hope to all who will put their trust in Jesus alone for their salvation.
“So how do I get this salvation?”
The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
To believe in, is to trust in, to have confidence in Jesus. This is a transfer of your trust from yourself, or anything or anyone else, to save you, and to Jesus alone as your hope.
This involves turning from our sin, asking God’s forgiveness, and trusting him to take away our sin, and to give us his goodness. This is the greatest exchange ever offered. Jesus takes our sin, and transfers his righteousness to us when we put our trust in him. We are instantly moved from a condition of being lost and separated from God, to one of being found and in a right relationship with God, as his children.
This happens simply by the grace of God and our faith in him. Often people will pray a prayer of acceptance to confirm what they have believed in their heart.
If you want to become a child or God, when you believe in Jesus, you can pray the following prayer or confirmation, or use your own words to confirm the same truths.
Dear God, I believe you are the creator of all things. I believe humans were created in your image, but that sin distorted that image, and ruined their relationship with you. I know that I am a sinner. Thank you for sending Jesus to pay the penalty for my sins by dying on the cross, being buried in a grave, and three days later that he arose rom the grave, conquering sin and death and hell for me. I ask you for forgive me from my sin. I turn from my sin and my own way, to trust in you. Please come into my life and save me from my sin and hell. I surrender my life to you. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me and now accepting you into my family.
In Jesus name, Amen.
